Flavored Water Recipes to help combat summer heat. BLW

Turning plain water into something much more exciting is oh so easy!

Bottled flavored water tempt us with luscious fruit on the label but it is just a cover for a mix of artificial colors, sugars and other unhealthy additions. They fall under same category as Coca Cola and Sprite. Surprised? When you get yourself a glass of water do you add 5 teaspoons of sugar? I doubt it but that’s what you find in a store bought flavored water.

Making homemade flavored water is easy peasy. There are so many possibilities! Fruit, veggies, spices and herbs. Sky is your limit here 🙂

Here is the list of our favorite combinations:

1. Blackberries + lemon + honey + (a little bit of apple cider vinegar) + (fresh lemon balm or basil)

Finio’s favorite combination!  You need a handful of blackberries (fresh or frozen), juice of half a lemon or slices of lemon,  a tablespoon of raw honey and 1 litre of water. Adding 1 – 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar helps fighting summer heat as it works like an isotonic.

 2. Lime / lemon + basil + strawberries

I love this combination. After a night in a fridge absolutely irresistible.Per liter of water, prepare 2 handfuls of strawberries, a few slices of lime and a few stalks of basil. Strawberries should be odszypułkować and cut into slices. You can add honey.

3. Lemon balm + orange / lemon

Squeeze juice of one orange or lemon and add few fresh lemon balm stalks plus a liter of water. Let it sit for an hour in the fridge. Lemon balm soothes and relaxes and this is sometimes all we need after a hectic day.

4. Watermelon + water + (mint)

You need a quarter of watermelon, a liter of water and optionally few  mint stalks. Cut watermelon into smaller pieces so it’s easier to discard the seeds – use a knife. Place it in a blender with some water and blend till smooth. Then add more water. It’s even nicer with fresh mint and some honey.

Notes:

Water should be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days. After a couple of hours remove any citrus from water as its peel can add bitterness if left for long hours in water. You can squeeze the juice instead of using the slices. Downside is the esthetics – water looks beautiful with citrus slices!
