When visiting a family with kids it’s not easy to buy a little nice treat that isn’t packed with sugar and food additives. Finio’s Grandparents seem so lost in the supermarket when it comes to choosing a healthy and yummy snack. It’s difficult for them to accept the fact that what’s adverised as a healthy kids snacks are usually quite the opposite. We’ve agreed on a list of “good treats” and they really appreciated the help. Here are some healthy store bought options that will make both the child and parent happy.
Good quality dark chocolate.
Look for chocolate that doesn’t contain soy soy lecithin and E476. 90% cocoa chocolate may seem a little hardcore for a baby because it’s not very sweet but my son loves it! If you want to introduce your child to chocolate that isn’t home-made choose extra dark so between 70% and 90%. Dark chocolate is loaded with nutrients and is a great source of antioxidants . Start them off with milk chocolate aka sugary crap and they won’t eat the real thing.
Kids love nuts! You can pick and choose: cashews, walnuts, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, almonds or pistachios. Pair a pack of raw nuts with some dried fruit and it’s a nutrient dense snack.
Blueberries, raspberries or wild strawberries are such a delicacy! I wouldn’t mind if you bought my son some bananas 😉 or any other fruit. Berries boost the immune system and keep mind sharp longer.
“Candy” made by Mother Nature
Dates, raisins and mulberries are so sweet it’s almost sickening. Add a walnut to a date and it’s such a rewarding snack!
Finio’s absolute number 1 is dark chocolate covered mulberries. They are irresistible!
Dried fruit are easy to buy and they are packed with nutrients. Finio’s favorites are: figs, dates, raisins, mulberries and apricots.
We all love that crunchy things! Kids aren’t any exception. We have our go to GMO free corn puffs with some fruit and veggies dust which adds a lovely flavor. Finio really enjoys freeze-dried fruit so we love to get them from our guests. Fruit and vegetable crisps are also a great idea!
